Tuba Soloist in the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai

Matteo Magli is since 2016 solo tubist in the “Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai” (Italian Broadcasting Orchestra, Turin, Italy; chief conductor: James Conlon). Born in 1990, he started his studies at the “Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali G. Donizetti” in Bergamo and the “Conservatorio G. Verdi” in Milan, graduating then in 2014 under Alessandro Fossi at the “Conservatorio G. Rossini” in Pesaro, where he obtained the highest degree in music education in Italy. He also took part in several masterclasses in Italy and Europe, getting the possibility to learn from famous teachers such as Steve Rossé, Bob Tucci, Daniel Perantoni, Øystein Baadsvik, Roland Szentpali and Gene Pokorny.

A successful player, he won several auditions for fixed-term contracts, which allowed him to collaborate with many orchestras and opera houses (Teatro alla Scala and Orchestra “La Verdi” in Milan, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Teatro la Fenice in Venice, Orchestra Haydn in Bolzano among many others), playing under great conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Charles Dutoit, Gennady Rozdestvenskij, Neville Marriner, Zubin Metha, Riccardo Chailly, Fabio Luisi, Myung-whun Chung, Semyon Bychkov and Kirill Petrenko. He took part from 2012 to 2014 in the CD recordings of Verdi’s “Simone Boccanegra”, performing with the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and Riccardo Muti conducting. He also toured with the same ensemble to Salzburg, playing Verdi’s “Nabucco” in the Festspielhaus and to Japan, performing in the best halls of Tokyo. In 2015, he played Puccini’s “Tosca” at the opening ceremony for EXPO (Teatro alla Scala, Milan, Riccardo Chailly conducting) and premiered Battistelli’s “CO2”, an opera commissioned by the same Teatro for EXPO.

As a teacher, he held masterclasses throughout Italy; as a soloist, he gave several recitals in duo with piano or accompanied by brass ensembles, performing in Bergamo, Pesaro and Rome.
