Sebastian Wagemann
Sebastian Wagemann is the principal Tuba of the opera orchestra “Komische Oper Berlin” and principal Tuba of the festival orchestra of the “Richard Wagner” festival in Bayreuth, Bavaria, Germany. As a regular substitute, he can be heard in some of the most renowned orchestras in Germany such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Berlin of the Berlin State Opera, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra Hamburg (Northwest German Broadcasting orchestra) and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra BR.
Since 2013 he has been adjunct professor for tuba at the “Hanns Eisler” Conservatory of Music Berlin and the University of the Arts Berlin UdK. Furthermore he replaced Professor Walter Hilgers from 2017-2019 as sole professor for Tuba at the “Franz Liszt” Conservatory of Music in Weimar, Germany.
You can hear Sebastian Wagemann perform as a chamber musician with his quintet “Costum Tomaculum”, the chamber music ensemble “Genesis Brass” and as a recurring guest artist with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Additionally Sebastian was a member of the “Junge Deutsche Blächblesersolisten” for many years.
Mr. Wagemann received his Bachelors degree in Tuba performance from the Cologne University for Music and Dance, where he studied with Professor Hans Gelhar and received secondary lessons in organ performance with Professor Winfried Böhnig. For his masters degree he studied at the “Franz Liszt” Conservatory of Music in Weimar with Professor Walter Hilgers where he graduated with honors.
Sebastian Wagemann gives masterclasses worldwide, for example in Argentina, Columbia and Spain. In addition to his mother tongue German, he is fluent in Spanish and English.
