Austin Howle
Austin Howle is the principal tuba of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, a position he has held since 2013. With a rich career spanning numerous prestigious ensembles, he has performed as a guest musician with orchestras such as the National Arts Centre Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, and Houston Symphony, as well as acting principal tuba with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in 2011.
In addition to his orchestral work, Austin is a dedicated educator, currently serving as a lecturer at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University and the Université de Montréal. During the summers, he has also taught at Domaine Forget and the NYO-USA.
Austin holds a Master of Music degree from Rice University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Florida State University. His principal teachers include David Kirk of the Houston Symphony and Chester Schmitz, former principal tuba of the Boston Symphony.
